British Games to be held in Glasgow summer 2005. It has been confirmed that the next British summer special olympic games will be held in Glasgow.The games will be held from 1st - 9th July 2005.More news will follow when we have it.

In the centre of Banja Luka, Bosnia, on 13 July 2003, there will be a Torch Run with up to 100 SFOR military personnel running to raise money for the Special Olympics. Dave Rennie, husband of Special Olympics supporter Fiona Rennie is currently serving as a medic with the stabilisation force in Bosnia, as a member of 225 (Highland) Field Ambulance, TA unit in Dundee.

"SHARE THE FEELING" Tayside have pleasure in announcing the athletes and coaches selected to represent Great Britain at the 11th World Summer Special Olympic Games in Dublin from 14th - 30th June 2003:- Mandy Cornwell - Athletics Ian Baxby - Powerlifting Kevin McGaw - Powerlifting Kevin Clark - Football 11 Bobby Stewart - Football 5 Gary Davidson - Football 5 Jennifer Moug - Equestrian Gordon Quinton - Head Coach - Swimming Gary Porter - Coach - Powerlifting Terry Gray - Head Coach - Football 5 David Stewart - Ten Pin Bowling Tim Rink - Powerlifting Gilliam Munro - Powerlifting Nicholas Smith - Football 5 Brian Crabb - Football 5 Nicola Reid - Equestrian Laura Boag - Table Tennis Laura Smith - Head Coach - Athletics Grant Houghton - Coach - Football 11 Jim Houghton - Head Coach - Table Tennis This is the first time this major event will be held outside of the United States and it will be the largest sporting event in the world in 2003, with over 7,000 athletes and 3000 coaches from 170 countries taking part. The Great Britain team will be one of the largest countries present with a team of 260. Some of the popular quotes and street talk they are using in Ireland about the Games :- "you'll miss out if you're not involved" and "share the feeling." The first team training weekend has taken place and sports specific weekends are being organised. It's an exciting time for all. Updates will follow.

EQUESTRIAN COMPETITION local riders enjoyed success at the Special Olympics Great Britain eastern region equestrian competition held in Peterborough. Representing the area were Blairgowrie rider Diane Smith and Glenfarg colleagues Jenny Moug, Paul Coulthard and Claire Muckersie. Jenny won two gold medals and a silver, Claire a silver and two bronze, Paul a gold and a silver, and Diane a gold and two bronze.

BOWLERS TO GUERNSEY A group of eleven bowlers and three coaches headed off on the 17th September to take part in the Guernsey Special Olympic Games.The bowlers, from all areas of Tayside, have been taking part in practice sessions at Dundee Indoor Bowling Club to ensure that they are ready for the competition.
